Stoneleigh Park, in the very heart of Warwickshire, hosted the 2014 Annual Meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge and proved to be a highly successful choice of venue. Nearly 700 brethren attended the meeting, with over 350 staying for the splendid lunch afterwards.

Acorns Hospice and Lifelites

In Warwickshire, we know a great deal about the Acorns Hospice in Selly Oak, to which the Province and many individual Lodges make donations throughout the year.  It is also one of the Provincial Grand Master’s “Famous Five” charities.  Acorns supports around 640 life limited and life threatened children and nearly 900 families, including those who have been bereaved, across the heart of England.

Another £140,000 to Local Charities

This year's donations to non-masonic charities by the Warwickshire Masonic Charitable Association will total £140,000 of which the majority has now been distributed. Over 100 charities have received sums ranging from £250 to £6000. An amount has been kept in reserve so that urgent requests during the year can be met.

Pictured are representatives from some of the larger recipient charities, who received their cheques at a lunch, hosted at the Clarendon Suites by the Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro David Macey. After congratulating the representatives of the charities present, the PGM thanked Pam Hegarty for the work she had done in organising the lunch, and the colossal administrative workload resulting from the allocated donations. W Bro David Butcher, as Chairman of the Acorns Children’s Hospice, thanked the Province of Warwickshire for their tremendous support, on behalf of all the charity representatives.

The WMCA Trustees evaluate the financial situation on an annual basis and allocate an amount depending on the income for the year. Donations are subsequently made to registered charities which operate primarily within the area covered by the Province of Warwickshire. The process is managed on behalf of the Trustees by W Bro John Hayward, the Provincial Grand Charity Steward assisted by W Bro Bill Clark, the Provincial Grand Almoner.

Donations are grouped by: Hospices, Hospitals and Air Ambulances; Carers and Support Groups; Homeless; Churches and Heritage Projects; Support Groups for Medical Conditions; Support for the Disabled; Sports and Clubs; Forces and Forces Help; Care Homes; Donations and Help for Masonic Events; Deaf and Blind; Medical Research; Holidays and Support for Disadvantaged and Disabled People.
