Provincial Grand Lodge of Warwickshire

RoshniRoshni is a refuge, a safe house in Birmingham for women and their children escaping domestic violence. Roshni provides emergency temporary accommodation for single women and women with children who are fleeing from domestic or sexual abuse/violence. The refuge location is kept confidential and no visitors are allowed in the building. Support workers are present to provide emotional and practical support to women and children.

The name Roshni means sunlight, brightness or light, which is particularly appropriate when you consider the safe haven that Roshni offers to women in a highly vulnerable position. Although still a relatively small organization, Roshni has been in existence for over 30 years, and provides a vital emergency function.

W Bro Keith Reynolds, a well know Solihull based member, heard on a Midlands News bulletin that just before Christmas a burglary had occurred at the refuge, and many of the presents donated for the children had been stolen. Although the staff and supporters of Roshni had managed to obtain substitutes for the losses, Keith felt it right that he should try to help out this charity, which exists on very limited funds. From charity funds held by Linwood Lodge, a donation of £500 was made, which the Warwickshire Masonic Charitable Association has been pleased to match. At the AGM of the charity, held on 15th February, W Bro Keith, accompanied by W Bro John Hayward, Provincial Charity Steward, presented the cheques to the trustees, a gesture which was appreciated and welcomed by all present.   It was pleasing to note that in anticipation of the donations, the Provincial logo had already been used on the charity’s documentation.
