On 25th November a delegation of 4 Brethren from St Paul’s Lodge No 43 flew off to Lyon to a weekend of social activities and a Lodge meeting to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the twinning with Loge Lugdunum No 44, Lyon and Loge Zur Einigkeit No 11, Frankfurt.
The tradition started on 22nd October 1966, at the instigation of Loge Lugdunum, who wished for the oldest lodges in Birmingham, Frankfurt and Lyon to twin as the cities had previously twinned as the second cities in each country.
Visits are arranged regularly in all three countries and one has to join in to appreciate the fraternal links between the three lodges. Masonry is definitely universal.
The photographs show W Bro David Houston of St Paul’s Lodge presenting a Heavy Maul with an engraved block to Venerable Maitre Karl Da Silva of Loge Lugdunum No. 44 to commemorate the visit plus pictures of social gatherings at a brother’s home, a restaurant in Lyon and even a Beaujolais vineyard.
We look forward to our next visit to Frankfurt in February 2017 to celebrate the 275th Anniversary of the founding of Loge Zur Einigkeit No 11.
In comparison Loge Lugdunum No 44 is young, being founded in 1954 and we visited them in 2014 to celebrate their 60th Anniversary.
St Paul’s Lodge had the pleasure of hosting delegations from our twin lodges in 2008 for our 275th Anniversary.
St Paul’s Lodge may be old, but we embrace change and welcome new members as we journey through the 21st century towards our Tercentenary in 2033.
