Faith, Hope and Province Support Cubs
For around twenty years, the Lodge of Faith and Hope 4772 has supported the Wilson Stuart cub pack, based at Erdington, Birmingham. Successive Almoners and Charity Stewards have ensured that each year, some help is give to this inspiring group, and in recent years, the Province has also been able to help the group.
The cubs are all from the Wilson Stuart School, a Special Academy school, catering for severely disabled children. The School caters for about 170 pupils aged 2-25 years. Some pupils have additional difficulties including sensory impairment, learning difficulties, communication difficulties or complex medical conditions.
The cub pack has been running for many years. The cub leaders are Akela – Susan Schneeberger and Baloo – Catherine Plunkett. The cubs group meet on Friday lunchtime and activities include badge work, games and having fun. This group is only for Wilson Stuart pupils aged 8-11.
W Bro Roger Chapman, with Bro Matt Fitzgerald and W Bro John Hayward visited the cubs and were entertained with a wonderful tribal playlet, which ended very happily, performed by the children for their Entertainers Badge. All the audience voted wholeheartedly for the badges to be awarded to the members of the group. After the play, cheques were presented from the Lodge and the Province, which will help the group to buy uniforms and equipment, and will go towards the next camp that the children attend – a very expensive item, with insurance being one of the most costly aspects.
If any other Lodges would like to help the group financially, please contact John Hayward, Provincial Charity Steward on 0121 454 0554. Further information on the school and the cubs can be seen at http://www.wilsonstuart.co.uk/primary/cubs/ and http://www.wilsonstuart.co.uk/

First Degree Action Replay
Having Initiated candidates at each of their latest three meetings, Charterhouse Lodge 5690 invite all other Entered Apprentices to join them at their meeting in Coventry on Monday 10th February 2014, where a demonstration and explanation of the First Degree will be given.
This involves stopping the ceremony at various points to explain the history and meaning of the ritual, and the lodge would love to see as many EAs as possible in attendance, who are guaranteed a warm welcome. It is hoped they would be accompanied by a Past Master of their own Lodge but if that is not possible they will be assigned one to accompany them.
Fourth Lewis for Etone
At their first meeting in 2014 members of Etone Lodge 5981, which meets at the splendidly redecorated Masonic Hall in Nuneaton, enjoyed an excellent initiation ceremony for their latest candidate and Lewis, Bro Nicholas Green.
This was conducted by his father W Bro FA (Tony) Green, a Past Master of the Lodge and current Lodge Secretary. Tony conducted the entire ceremony himself and did a truly brilliant job. Bro Nicholas is now the fourth Lewis within the lodge, and proved an excellent candidate.
