Catching Up with the Paperwork
W Bro H J (Jack) Hier, who was initiated into Murdoch Lodge 3480 on 13th October 1977 and took his third degree on 13th December 1979, is one of the older members of the Lodge yet still undertakes many regular offices as well as his role as Lodge Almoner.
Having recently realised he had never received a Grand Lodge Certificate, due enquiries were made and the Certificate has now arrived.
It will be presented to Jack at the regular Lodge meeting to be held on Thursday 13th December 2012 by Visiting Officer W Bro Robert Newton, exactly 33 years to the day from Jack taking his third degree.
The Lodge would be delighted for visiting Brethren to attend the meeting, at the Clarendon Suites, Edgbaston, especially those who have known Jack during his 35 years membership.
Cycling for Babies
Intrepid cyclists Bros Dave Rose and Tony Shannon of Guy's Lodge 395, which meets in Leamington Spa, cycled the 140 miles from Provincial Grand Lodge in Birmingham all the way to Grand Lodge in London to raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit of Warwick Hospital.
The delightful ride, although tough at times, took them through many of the backwater villages and small towns in Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire, and they enjoyed all the weather elements of the UK, starting in bright sunshine in Birmingham and ending in the rain in London!
Their Worshipful Master nominated the Special Care Baby Unit as his designated charity for the year 2012 and since Tony's son Patrick was nursed there, it has been especially near to his heart.

Donation ends Incredible Year
Not long before installing his successor, the Master of the Lodge of St Blaise 6113, W Bro Pete Woodfield presented a cheque for £1,600 to the Teenage Cancer Trust on behalf of the Lodge, bringing the total raised by the Mill Street Masonic Hall lodges to £3,400.
The cheque was recevied on behalf of the Trust by Georgia (13), who is the granddaughter of Walter, the caterer at Mill Street.
Photos and Pete's narrative can be seen on the Lodge's website here.
The David Garrick Lodge 4243 enjoyed a splendid performance at the raising of Bro Steven Sanders-Crook, which was followed by a presentation from members of Nore Lodge 3610 (Essex) to W Bro Michael Kemp.
Steven is a Lewis, his father Ray, a former Yeomen Warder (or Beefeater) at the Tower of London, having been Master of the Lodge, which meets at Stratford-upon-Avon, in 2007.
Michael joined the Lodge and was Master in 1991, but received his 50 year Certificate at his mother Lodge in Essex from whence a delegation presented him with gifts, greetings and a Certificate of Honorary Membership.
