Annual Craft v Mark skittle tournament - pipped at the post

At the annual Mark V Craft Skittles Tournament a variety of styles of bowling were observed, and the rules were rewritten as circumstances dictated. Nevertheless, and despite some magnificent efforts by the Craft team, the victors were the Mark team by the slimmest of margins – just one point. Resounding applause greeted the 13-12 victory by the Mark.

In handing over the trophy, only on loan of course, David Macey congratulated Roger Mac and his team with the words “Well, it’s the Masonic thing to do to let them win occasionally”.

The Craft will return leaner and meaner next year to return the trophy to its customary place in the Provincial Office, where the shelf is looking very bare at present.

Once again the event was a great success with £460 raised from the raffle for the Warwickshire Mark 2027 Mark Benevolent Fund Festival, supporting the charity “Hope for Tomorrow”, which is providing mobile cancer treatment units across the country, and is supported by both teams.

Thanks to the organisers and helpers on both sides, and to Cedric Styles and his team of willing volunteers for putting on the event, with a superb lunch enjoyed by all.

Freemasons' Hall
Freemasons' Hall
On arrival in London we may have time for some light refreshments before making our way to Freemasons Hall for 12 noon where we will be given a private VIP guided tour of this incredible grade two listed building. This will include the Grand Temple and other ceremonial areas of the building, unlocking much of its history and taking you to places off limits to the general public!

The building has been at the centre of English Freemasonry for 230 years, it is the meeting place for over a thousand Masonic lodges and is the headquarters of the United Grand Lodge of England, the oldest Grand Lodge in the world.

Also open to us is the incredible Library and Museum with a room dedicated to 300 years of freemasonry, this includes the new Tercentenary exhibition which shows how freemasonry has developed from the 1700s into a significant social institution and explores how modern freemasonry fits into today’s world.  It contains an extensive collection of objects with Masonic decoration including pottery and porcelain, glassware, silver, furniture and clocks, jewels and regalia. Items belonging to many famous and Royal Freemasons including Winston Churchill and Edward VII are on display together with examples from the Museum's extensive collection of prints, engravings and photographs.

After the tour we will have the option of visiting Letchworth's gift shop in Freemasons’ Hall that sells masonic regalia, gifts, stationery, postcards and souvenirs, it offers a range of items which can be personalised for individuals, lodges or chapters.

Burgoyne Lodge No. 902

Burgoyne Lodge meets at Freemasons’ Hall and the lodge meeting will start promptly at 5:00 pm, so please do not forget to pack your Five of Nine Club ties, club lapel pins and cuff-links if you have them.

However, with inclusivity in mind, for those who are not Fellowcraft Freemasons and above please do not think this is not a trip for you, if you are required to leave the room for the short time whilst the ceremony takes place you will have the opportunity of meeting the Metropolitan Grand Mentor for a question and answer session in relation to Freemasonry and Freemasons' Hall, an opportunity in itself not to be missed!

Following the ceremony all of the brethren will make a short walk to the hotel where we will indulge in a festive board with members of Burgoyne Lodge.  After being fed and watered, having spent the evening making new friends and cementing links between our clubs we will depart London by coach at approximately 10:00 pm and head back to the West Midlands.

The cost for this event will be £75 members and £85 non-members, this includes:

  • Return transport to London from Birmingham-Coventry,
  • Refreshments,
  • A private VIP guided tour of the Grand Temple and other ceremonial areas,
  • Dining with Burgoyne Lodge No. 902 at the exclusive Radisson Edwardian Hotel including wine.

This will prove to be a very popular trip so don’t delay in securing your place, spaces are limited!

Mentoring Workshop - Monday 13 Feb - Alderson House

The next Mentoring Workshop will be held at Alderson House Warwick on Monday 13th February at 7.30 pm.

One of the aims of the Provincial Mentor is to try and engender a sense of team spirit among mentors of Warwickshire Lodges, and this ethos seemed to be well received by those present at the previous meeting at Yenton. One of the successes of the previous Workshop was to hear the experiences of those Lodge Mentors present, be they positive or negative all gained from what they had to say. To this end all those attending are asked if they would give some thought to an experience they have had that could be shared with the workshop.

This evening will be very informal when it is hoped that all can learn from one another the art of good mentoring , in a time of great uncertainty in Masonry.

Please let the Provincial Mentor know if you are coming so he can organise refreshments:This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
