The official London presentation of the Prestonian Lecture

The Zetland and Hong Kong Lodge No. 7665 is honoured to be appointed as the host lodge for the official London presentation of the Prestonian Lecture for 2016.

Monday the 25th day of April 2016 - Commencing at 5.00pm

Freemasons’ Hall, Great Queen Street

“Foundations: new light on the formation and early years

of the Grand Lodge of England”

The Prestonian Lecture explores the evolution of Freemasonry, queries long-standing myths, and explains the step change that occurred with the creation of the first Grand Lodge of England in 1717.

The Lecturer outlines the connections between Freemasonry and the British establishment in the eighteenth century, and how and why its leaders positioned Grand Lodge as a bastion of support for the government. He also touches on how Freemasonry was used to advance Britain’s diplomatic objectives and for espionage.

The Lecture marks the upcoming 300th anniversary of the formation of the first Grand Lodge and sets a context for 2017’s celebration.

The Prestonian Lecturer is appointed by the United Grand Lodge of England. This year’s lecturer, W Bro Dr Ric Berman ProvPSGD (Middlesex), is the author of Foundations of Modern Freemasonry first published in 2011 and now in its second edition; Schism (2013), which explains the real conflict between Moderns and Antients; and Loyalists & Malcontents (2015), a history of colonial and post-colonial Freemasonry in America's Deep South.

We hope that you will be able to join us to dine for which the cost with be £45.00.

For those who desire to attend only the Lecture then there is a nominal charge of £5.00 to assist the Lodge with temple fees and expenses.

The Spring Lunch, organised by the Ladies' Gift Fund, took place on Sunday 20th March at the Kings Heath Masonic Hall.

A near capacity attendance of over 150 enjoyed a splendid three course lunch, following which cheques were presented to the Provincial Grand Masters for the three Provinces. The cheques for £2750 each, were acknowledged by each in turn, but with a common destination theme – to assist with the approaching Festivals in the three Provinces. The newly formed Masonic Charitable Foundation will also receive a cheque for £750.

Pictured below are Mrs Sandra Rouse, Chair of the Ladies Gift Fund, presenting the cheque to R W Bro David Macey, Warwickshire PGM, with Master of Ceremonies for the day, W Bro Colin Young.
