£150,000 to Warwickshire Charities

This year's donations to non-masonic charities by the Warwickshire Masonic Charitable Association will total £150,000, of which the majority has now been distributed. Around 120 charities have received sums ranging from £250 to £6500. An amount has been kept in reserve so that urgent requests during the year can be met. Pictured are representatives from some of the larger recipient charities, who received their cheques at a lunch, hosted at the Warwickshire Masonic Temple, Edgbaston, Birmingham, in February by the Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro David Macey. After congratulating the representatives of the charities present, the Provincial Grand Master thanked Pam Hegarty for the work she had done in organising the lunch, and the colossal administrative workload resulting from the allocated donations. W Bro David Butcher, as Chairman of the Acorns Children’s Hospice, thanked the Province of Warwickshire for their tremendous support, on behalf of all the charity representatives.

The WMCA Trustees evaluate the financial situation on an annual basis and allocate an amount depending on the income for the year. Donations are subsequently made to registered charities which operate primarily within the area covered by the Province of Warwickshire. The process is managed on behalf of the Trustees by W Bro John Hayward, the Provincial Grand Charity Steward assisted by W Bro Bill Clark, the Provincial Grand Almoner.

A full summary of the donations can be seen on the Provincial website. They are grouped by: Hospices, Hospitals and Air Ambulances; Carers and Support Groups; Homeless; Churches and Heritage Projects; Support Groups for Medical Conditions; Support for the Disabled; Sports and Clubs; Forces and Forces Help ; Care Homes ; Donations and Help for Masonic Events; Deaf and Blind; Medical Research; Holidays and Support for Disadvantaged and Disabled People.

Nominations for future donations to registered Warwickshire charities should be forwarded to John Hayward at the Charity Office in Edgbaston.

In a packed lodge room, and in the presence of three other fellow Past Deputy Provincial Grand Masters and many other senior and distinguished masons, VW Bro David Rawlins was presented with his 50 years Service to Fremasonry Certificate by the Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro David Macey.

Prior to the formal presentation the PGM engaged in a delightful dialogue with David, during which he explored his youth, family and business life, including his lifelong involvement and love of horses.

He also detailed David's extensive masonic career, which had included very senior positions in several other orders from which David had always demonstrated total inspiration to all, and expressed how privileged he felt at being able to make the presentation.

New Wardens Announced

The Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro David Macey, has appointed his Provincial Grand Wardens for the 2015/16 Masonic Season.

He has been pleased to appoint W Bro David J M Greenwood as Provincial Senior Grand Warden and W Bro Ian A Hart as Provincial Junior Grand Warden. Ian is currently Provincial Grand Tyler, which office will be taken by W Bro Rodney P Burlton. The PGM will be pleased to invest these three Officers at the Annual Meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge on 16th May, and we wish them all well deserved congratulations.

Six brethren of the fledgling Warwickshire Masonic Clay Shooting Team arrived early one Sunday morning at the Doveridge shooting ground in Derbyshire. After a hearty breakfast they registered with the organiser WBro David Watts and after paying £25 each for 50 clays they headed out to the five sporting traps. Although it was quite cold and grey, they all enjoyed a morning of friendly banter and rivalry and found the different traps quite challenging. They had a nice surprise when they met Assistant Pprovincial Grand Master W Bro Eric Rymer half way around who was shooting with his friends, one a member of Loyal Travellers Lodge.

After a couple of hours, the hardy marksmen returned to the reception for a hot drink and to register their results.

As it turned out, none of them won that day, but W Bro Rob Pike had the highest score of the team with 33 out of 50, and a total of £1400 was raised for charity.

This was once more a very enjoyable day, with a team half as big again as the last competition, so all is going well for the Team.

One particularly laudable trophy was however brought back by the team, their winning the bid to host the 2016 competition here in Warwickshire.
