Provincial Grand Lodge of Warwickshire

Twelve children who attend a special needs department from a school in South Birmingham were treated to a day’s trout fishing by the Warwickshire branch of the Masonic Trout and Salmon Fishing Charity (MTFSC). The event was held at Heathcote Lakes Trout Fishery, near Warwick and was organised by W Bro Ian Hart (Provincial Grand Tyler) and W Bro Bob Croxall (Lodge of Grace 6211).

The children had never been trout fishing before and their individual helpers - Masons and non-Masons alike - assisted them to catch 20 rainbow trout during the day, much to their delight. Their teachers were full of praise for the day, saying how wonderful it was to see the children actively participating, especially those who were normally shy, withdrawn or from various ethnic backgrounds.

The MTSFC is funded purely by donations from Lodges, Chapters and Provinces. The Ancient and Accepted Rite in Warwickshire has been particularly generous, as have the Craft Province and the Mark Benevolent Fund. It costs approximately £50 per child per day to put on such an event, so if any Almoners would like to donate to the Charity, please contact Bob Croxall, Treasurer, at This email address is being protected from spambots. This event was successful due to the support of MTSFC volunteers who came from Warwickshire and Worcestershire Provinces to help support the event.

After the fishing session, the children were given a slap-up lunch, once again prepared by Bob’s wife Julia. Following that, each child was presented with a certificate, with further certificates for most determined participant, most patient participant and for best fish. The presentations were made by W Bro Ian Hart.

The minibus full of happy children – and teachers – left to go back to their school in South Birmingham, with lots of smiling faces!
