Lodge of Peace and Harmony

My name is Gary Hulme and I am a Member of the Lodge of Peace and Harmony. I have an auto immune disease and my health has not been great for many years and in particular the last six months.

I have received fantastic support from our National Health Service so I have decided it is time for me to give something back.

On Sunday 24th September 2017, together with 14,999 other cyclists I shall be cycling in the inaugural Velo Birmingham, a closed road event.  I will be riding 100 miles from Birmingham, passing through Staffordshire and Worcestershire via Sandwell and then back to Birmingham. This is a tough event, with some hard hills to climb 1,754m of pain.

Because of my health this has amplified the difficulty of this challenge. My training for this has not gone to plan, however I am determined to ride the full 100 miles.

I will be riding for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, to support injured Servicemen and Servicewomen and their families. The amazing work that the QE Hospital does for injured Service Personnel and their families is far beyond the scope of the usual NHS work and rely on charitable funding to continue.

Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity supports patients and families at one of the UK’s largest hospitals, including wounded UK Military Personnel and children with cancer. From ground breaking research to world-leading cancer equipment, the Charity provides ‘added extras’ that go over and above what the NHS can fund.

Please donate if you can, the QE needs charitable funding to continue all of the excellent work it undertakes. For all the QE patients past present and future help me to contribute to this wonderful hospital.

You can help Gary raise money for this great cause by donating directly to their fundraising page - https://www.justgiving.com/garyhulme

The Warwickshire Masonic Charitable Association is pleased and proud to support the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. We wish Gary the best of luck in the ride, and a return to good health to follow.
