Cash Coughed Up for Hospital Machine

Reported widely in the local press, a “Cough Assist Machine” has been presented to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, following months of fund-raising headed by W Bro Bill Roberts, a Past Master of the Doric Lodge 4167. The machine, which relatively few hospitals possess, is to help patients who suffer from a condition called Myasthenia Gravis – the machine helps to discharge lung secretions where the muscles around the lungs are weakened. The machine will help a variety of patients suffering from broncho-pulmonary conditions, both those attending the Redditch hospital and other surrounding areas of Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

Many Warwickshire Lodges, together with both the Craft and Mark Provincial Grand Lodges of Warwickshire have contributed to the funds required for the purchase of the machine.

The Freemasons Grand Charity in London (FGC) and the Warwickshire Masonic Charitable Association both make donations on an annual basis to many registered charities throughout the country.

For at least 30 years, the FGC has provided dedicated annual support to vulnerable people, medical research, hospitals and hospice services and many other organisations in England & Wales. Over £120 million has been donated by the FGC to charitable causes since 1981. The FGC is funded entirely by freemasons and their families.

The Warwickshire Masonic Charitable Association, operating independently from the FGC, donates funds from Freemasons in Warwickshire and the West Midlands to Registered Charities in the immediate area. Many individual Masonic Lodges will make their own donations, however the central fund of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Warwickshire has been pleased to assist in this worthy cause. Freemasons from throughout the Province are pleased to support registered charities, and both the hospital and the Myaware charity www.myaware.org are fully qualified to receive this support, which will be of benefit to the hospital and its patients.

Well done to Bill, for all his efforts in co-ordinating this exercise, whilst coping with the condition.
